I am excited to share with y’all, I have been given a conditional job offer (CJO) from American Airlines for a Flight Attendant Trainee position. A CJO is the formal document that invites me to Flight Attendant Training, upon completion of the program will I receive the full position. Link to AA’s Job Posting.
👨💻 Application Process
According to so many AA and other airline’s FAs—I was extremely lucky—with my application process. Many FAs say it takes weeks to months to hear… mine took four (4) days! After applying, I was offered a virtual group interview (which had about 25 people) and I had ONE (1) question to answer (and a fun intro). Then, I attended an in-person face-to-face interview, all travel provided by AA.
- Applied: April 25th, 2023
- Invitation to a Virtual Interview: April 29th, 2023
- Virtual Interview: May 9th, 2023 (yes, during finals week)
- Invitation to a Face-to-Face Interview: May 20th, 2023
- Original Face-to-Face Interview: June 15th, 2023 (rescheduled due to backpacking trip)
- Official Face-to-Face Interview: July 7th, 2023
📚 Flight Attendant Training?
AA, like all other airlines, hosts their own Flight Attendant Training. It is a 6-week program from approximately 8:00 am to 10:00 pm six (6) days a week, to cover safety, service, and everything in between. “Approximately” because each day’s call time is different—to prepare me for the random times of flights.
AA has theirs at the SkyView Headquarters in Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). I am currently unsure when my training will be, I am waiting to hear back from AA. After that, I will be in a year-long probationary period.
🏡 Where will I live?
FAs are required to begin their trips from a crew-base, AA has nine (9) bases and I am only allowed to preference a base. Depending on where I am placed, I will pick the best city for this new lifestyle. The order of base preferences I have given are below. I will have to wait to see what the company needs and where they place me to give any definitive answer. Everything is based on seniority, and seniority starts with the date of training and birthdate—so I am probably near the bottom of my FA class seniority already.
- DFW - Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas
- ORD - Chicago, Illinois
- BOS - Boston, Massachusetts
- CLT - Charlotte, North Carolina
- DCA, IAD, & BWI - Washington, DC*
- SFO - San Francisco, California
- JFK, EWR, & LGA - New York City, New York*
- LAX & SNA - Los Angeles, California*
- MIA & FLL - Miami, Florida*
- * Theses cities all are considered one (1) crew base, and trips can be created from and conclude at any of these listed.
🗳️ But… Elections & Campaign Management?
Yeah… so I still do love elections, but I just don’t see that in my cards—right now. This is the chapter of my life that I am able bodied and have relativity no ‘tie downs.’ This lifestyle will help me reach my goal of 50 under 25 (50 countries under 25 years old—three away!).
👋 Thank you for visiting!
